Letters and Statements

April 21, 2026

We stand in full solidarity with the Community of Squatted Prosfygika and their
resistance to the repression of the Greek State. As one of the largest self-organized and
liberated neighbourhoods in Europe, the 400 inhabitants of the occupied buildings, have
created a community grounded in mutual aid and collective struggle.

In the past 15 years, Prosfygika has supported thousands and has consistently been at
the forefront of social, political, class-based and internationalist struggles. Current
residents come from 27 different countries and speak more than 20 languages and
have self-organized to meet the needs of the community that are being ignored by the
State.

Gentrification and corporate projects aligned with ruling class capitalist interests have
initiated a plan for eviction and full-scale attack on the community. This historical place
of resistance, first built to host refugees from Asia Minor, has been targeted by the
Mitsotakis regime as a political opponent and an economic asset for plunder and
exploitation.

As trade unionists in Canada with conscience and empathy, we stand with our
international comrades in the Community of Squatted Prosfygika. Their vigilance
against the State and police are an inspiration to our fights across borders and within
our own State, knowing that solidarity is our common language.

Either we win, or we win.
