PSAC Convention report – day 3

15th TRIENNIAL PSAC CONVENTION – VANCOUVER BC REPORT TO THE CULE MEMBERSHIP FOR WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29, 2009

The CULE Executive continued their Executive meeting after the conclusion of the PSAC Convention on Tuesday. We still have some outstanding Agenda items from our meetings on the weekend and our plan is to meet each evening after the Convention for a few hours to finish them. We have also arranged a meeting at 7:00 tonight with the CULE members attending Convention as staff; and for those in the Vancouver RO.

The PSAC Convention commenced at 8:30 a.m. and the Constitution Committee was first to the floor to commence deliberations on Composite Resolution CS 26A, Full Funding of PSAC Regional Conventions. After very lengthy debate, a secret ballot was conducted and the Constitution Committee’s recommendation of concurrence was defeated.

As mentioned in yesterday’s update, the 2010-2011-2012 PSAC Budget was Carried, with no dues increase. The Budget that was approved included 9 additional positions (to be determined by the AEC).

The Convention Credentials Committee has reported that there were 738 delegates/observers and guests on Day 1; and 744 on Day 2.

After a 1 hour lunch, there was discussion regarding a new DQPS Paper which was presented to the Convention. This Paper was passed unanimously.

The Constitution Committee was then recalled and Resolution CS-71, Strike Pay (increase from $50 to $75.00 per day for general and/or rotating strikes) was debated and eventually was referred back to the Committee to look at no dues increase association with the Resolution.
