CULE Executive Report – PSAC Convention Day 2

The morning was taken up by the Constitution Committee, several changes to the constitution were approved, mostly surrounding the representation of DCLs & Human Rights groups at Area Councils, defining the right to revoke membership in the PSAC, and the clarification on the procedures surrounding reporting scabbing to the AEC.

The convention reconvened after lunch with a Human Rights Forum. Delegates heard presentations from Maria Eva Villate a Columbian lawyer who participated in the Front Lines Tour in 2002; Terry Fenge, a specialist in Aboriginal rights and interests in the Arctic; and Sandra Carnegie-Douglas, an activist who works with the Canadian Race Relations Foundation among other groups.

A no-dues-increase budget was passed with 20 new positions, a decrease of 5 from the proposed amount of 25. These new positions would be determined by the AEC. Convention also decreased the proposed Political Action budget. The issue of the Strike Fund levy will be addressed later.

In Solidarity, CULE Executive
