Call-out – CULE Equity Committee

Equity Resolutions – CULE Convention

Please advise Heather Longstaff, CULE Secretary, by March 31, 2006 if you would like to volunteer to sit on a Committee to deal with the Equity Resolutions brought forward at the CULE Convention. Marion Agadzi is the Executive Member on this Committee.

Update: The Committee will consist of 4 members. If there are more than 3 volunteers for the committee (Marion Agadzi is the Executive Member on Committee) the process for selection will be equity of Bargaining Unit memebers and geographic location

The mandate of this Committee will be to make recommendations and develop language regarding the resolutions (below) and provide this information to the CULE Executive.


Late Resolution #1 – Equity Caucus

WHEREAS the current CULE Constitution does not recognize an equity caucus, and WHEREAS equity members of CULE have on past occasions met informally to discuss equity issues, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the CULE Constitution be amended to recognize and establish an equity caucus at CULE Conventions, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the equity caucus shall consist of members who self-identify as a member of an equity seeking group, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the equity caucus at Convention have the authority to table resolutions to Convention.

Late Resolution #2 – Equity Caucus

WHEREAS CULE does not currently ask members to voluntarily self-identify as a member of an equity group, and WHEREAS voluntary self-identification is a precondition to recognizing and establishing an equity caucus, THEREFOE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the CULE Executive develop and maintain a voluntary and confidential self-identification process.

Late Resolution #3 – Equity Caucus

WHEREAS the current CULE constitution does not recognize an executive Position of equity director, and WHEREAS general membership elections may or may not result in equity representation on the executive, and WHEREAS general membership elections do not confer a specific mandate upon any individual executive member to speak on behalf of equity member, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the CULE Constitution be amended to recognize and establish an executive position of equity director to advance equity issues, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the position of equity director be put up for elections forthwith, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the election for equity director be open to members of equity seeking groups.

Late Resolution #4 – Equity Caucus

WHEREAS CULE’s policies and constitution does not incorporate a clear equity analysis, BE IT RESOLVED THAT CULE establish a Standing Equity Committee whose function will be to apply an equity analysis to policies that affect the CULE member.
